My first version came out a lot shippier. And it worked but I, too, like to stick with their friendship so I whittled it down some (also had to shave word count for a challenge so something had to go).

I think I might write a companion piece from Jack's POV. I'm sure there are things Jack wants to say but can't find words for. They're both going to regret it when the other is gone and they never got around to saying anything.
