lots of random icons

I'm bored.  Should be working on a fic that's due tonight but... I'm watching Lilo & Stitch instead (with my 6yo and 1yo) and updating my icons.  So here's a post with a bunch of icons I've made over the last...whenever.  Most are from [livejournal.com profile] oneill_icontest but there are others from various challenges all over LJ.  And some I made just because.

Preview:

there are Stargate SG-1 (14 Sam/Jack, 30 Sam, 29 Jack, 3 Jack & Daniel, 8 other), Stargate Atlantis (12), SGU (8), Farscape (1), Firefly (8), Bones (1), Angel (1), Star Wars (5), general writing (3), random real life (24)

lots and lots...and lots of icons )

what is with me and word counts?

Why is it when I want to write something long (say for [livejournal.com profile] stargate_summer) I can't seem to get any words down or stall out after a few hundred?  But when I need to write something short and quick...I end up with 4000 words?

My mind is a weird place.

Anyway, I started to write a short little fic last night.  The prompt was "luck" (for [livejournal.com profile] stargateland) and it only needed to be 100 words.  Figured I could bang it out in an hour and get it posted and out of the way.  But then the story just kind of took off.  It went from what was supposed to be a silly little gen fic to some hardcore Sam/Jack UST angst.  And it's just under 4000 words.  But I still have to edit it.  I'll be posting it in a little bit because it's due tonight.

I just need Nora to LEAVE ME ALONE long enough to work on it.  That girl NEVER stops talking, I swear.

Anyway, here's a preview:
Carter giggled—a sound Jack would never tire of hearing even if he'd never admit that to her. He was kind of surprised he'd just admitted it to himself. Maybe he had a little more mead than he'd thought. They settled back into silence but without any of the earlier awkwardness. Jack leaned his head against the cool stone wall and sighed. Content. That's what he was feeling he realized.

Stargate SG-1 fic: Luck of the Irish

This started out as a response to a challenge at stargateland.  The prompt was simply "luck" and the fic only needed to be 100 words.  I figured I could finish it quick and maybe write 300-400 words, something silly and gen.  And then my muse decided to show up and next thing I know the thing is 4000 words and heavy on the Sam/Jack UST.

I didn't really have a lot of time to research Irish traditions and history so it's mostly on the generic side.  And my little saying is made up (as far as I know).  The one Jack says is real, though.

WARNINGS:

May good luck be your friend in whatever you do and may trouble be always a stranger to you. Sam and Jack find they don't mind taking part in some alien traditions.

don't own... wish I did, but I don't. No infringement intended.

Stepping out of the 'Gate was like stepping into the past. The simple stone buildings with their thatched roofs and rough-hewn doors looked like something out of a Thomas Kinkade painting. The locals looked a bit confounded as the blue event horizon blinked out of existence leaving the town square feeling a little closed in.

are you feeling lucky? )
