I was too busy to be online last night to read this in a timely fashion, but:
Ick. I've definitely had those days (and nights), and I sympathise. Sometimes it's even a self-inflicted wound because my steel-trap attention span latched on to someting and wouldn't let go until... eeeep! I need to get up in an hour, and I haven't been to bed yet! Sick kids are the worst.
I know it probably isn't much of a consolation, but studies have shown that any medication that one takes to reduce the symptoms of the common cold (with the exception of zinc lozenges that had to be taken off the market because they were permanently damaging people's sense of smell) make the symptoms easier to bear, but actually extend the duration of the cold. Since learning that, I've been inclined to withhold the meds (with the exception of cough drops during tests at school, and twice a cough suppressant at night for a kid who absolutely could not sleep without it due to extreme coughing) on the grounds that if it were me I would want to suffer more for fewer days. Indeed that's the way I treat myself too.
