Just a bunch of drabbles written for Zuko/Katara.

Sundown

As a child, Zuko dreaded the sinking of the sun. It meant a disconnect from Agni—a dwindling of his inner flame—making bending all the more difficult. But since joining the Avatar on his adventures, the setting sun has meant something completely different to Zuko.

He made his way down to the beach where he found Katara—the moon shimmering in her hair—as she worked through every Waterbending form she knew.

His heart swelled at the sight, but he quietly retreated before she could notice him. His dreams would again be filled with waves and fierce blue eyes.

Good Morning

Katara had never been what one would consider a morning person. Oh, she got up early every day no matter what, but she never enjoyed it. Things changed when Zuko joined the group, though. That boy could predict the moment the rays of the sun first appeared over the horizon and would be on the beach, ready to practice his forms.

Katara hated to admit that she loved to watch from her window in the house as Zuko meticulously went through each position in his Firebending. She’d never admit to anyone—even under duress—that she appreciated he worked shirtless.

I wrote this little drabble back in September as part of a drabble tree challenge at 4thewords.com:

Tamaki tries to make a confession, but Kyoya isn't really paying attention.
100 words | [PG]

Hikaru grinned slyly at Kyoya as he read the paper. “I heard the Boss had a talk with you. A personal talk.”

Kyoya turned the page, not bothering to respond.

“So what did he have to say?”

"I don’t know,” Kyoya said with indifference. “Something stupid, probably. I wasn’t really paying attention"

Out of nowhere, Tamaki popped up, indignation all over his face. “But I confessed my feelings for you! How could you not be paying attention?”

Kyoya quirked a brow. “Is that what you were on about?”

Hikaru fell to the floor, laughing, while Tamaki pouted in the corner.

I wrote these two drabbles for the anime/manga Fruits Basket back in October 2021 as part of a Drabble Tree challenge at 4thewords.com.

Figured I should post them here. They're the firs new thing I've written and finished in years.

Drabble #1:

Akito Sohma hated Tohru Honda for one unparalleled reason. She had power. Power she didn’t even begin to understand. Akito didn’t need to feel the connection with the Twelve Zodiacs fizzling out or see the look of abject defiance in their eyes.

He didn’t need any of that to know her power.

Because he could feel it, too. Feel the pull on his soul to be good. To do better. For her. She made him want that, and he hated her for it because it would be so easy to let go and let her lead him out of Hell.

Drabble #2:

“Make a wish!”

Kyo glared at the small cupcake in his hand—the candle flickering in the breeze. How did she even find out it was my birthday?

With one hand, Tohru fiddled with a flowering weed, and he tried to think of how to tell her that she would be his wish. As her smile faded in apprehension, panic drilled deep into his chest. Kyo blew out the candle with a forced smile.

“What did you wish for?”

He bopped her head. “I can’t tell, or it won’t come true.” And, God, did he want that hug from her.

Little notes:

I wrote the first one before fully finishing the last season, and honestly, that's pretty much how it ended. Akito is the villain of the show. He's the head of the family that controls and abuses the 13 zodiacs. He hates Tohru simply because she's pulling the zodiac members away from him. But in the end, when he confronts her, she wins him over. He wants to be saved and loved by her just like the zodiac members. Then a bunch of drama happens. I liked that not everyone (and I mean almost no one) forgave Akito for the abuse he put on them, but Akito was allowed to go on with his life and try to find happiness like everyone else. (Purposefully being vague to not spoil anything).

With the second one... Because of the curse, Kyo and Tohru can't physically embrace or he'll turn into a cat. Let's just say that eventually he gets his wish.

The tear dropped onto Mal's cheek.

“You stupid, stupid man,” Inara said. “Why do you have to be so noble all the time?”

She carefully wiped the tear and blood from his face, softly kissing the clean skin beneath. She was well aware the doctor was still in the room, but no longer cared.

“I didn't even get to tell you how I really feel,” she murmured, her lips brushing his.

The doctor cleared his throat. “Uh, he's not dead. He's not even unconscious.”

“What?”

“How 'xactly you feel 'bout me?” Mal asked, a devilish grin spreading across his face.

Daniel and Vala are supposed to meet up with the rest of the team at a campsite in the mountains. But nothing goes according to Daniel's plans.

(This story was originally written in 2012 and has been updated for composition and clarity in 2020.)

“Where the hell are we?”

From the look on Vala’s face, he knew the answer. They were lost.

“You had the map—how could you get us lost?” Daniel grabbed the paper from her, trying to figure out where they were.

Vala leaned over his arm. “I think we’re... there.” She jabbed her finger at a spot in the big green area.

Daniel sighed. “That’s South Dakota. You have no idea where we are, do you?”

Vala shrugged. Daniel had a feeling their misdirection was not accidental.

“It’s getting dark,” Vala said with a grin. “We should bed down here.”
