So, yeah, I signed up to do a 30 day writing challenge @[livejournal.com profile] writers30days.  Didn't think it was that big of a deal.  It's not like I've never done writing challenges before.  I do NaNo every year.  And I've won the last three years in a row (going for win #4 this November).  So, the whole point is to write 15 themed stories in April.  I figured I could do that.  Or, at least, come close.  And, yet, here it is the 8th and I've finished all of one story.

What I didn't take into account was the fact that my youngest daughter turned 5 on the 5th and I planned to throw her a party.  The party (which was a lot of fun for her and her friends...and my other kids' friends) took up my entire Saturday.  Sunday I was so exhausted from the party I slept almost all day.  Monday, I got some writing done but my story, as usual, turned out really long.  Tuesday was Nora's actual birthday and my husband called into work so we took her to the Oregon Zoo.  Everyone had a blast.

Today we went to Multnomah Falls, OR because the weather was AMAZING!  It was in the low 60s and the sun is shining.  I didn't make it to the top of the falls (hubby and the kids did, though) but it was so much fun.  And this time I remembered a shot glass to commemorate our first trip there (forgot to get one from the zoo).

So now it's the 8th and I should be finishing up story number 4 to be able to finish in time and I've only just started story 2.  Definitely a problem.  Even if I get nowhere near completing this challenge I'm going to finish writing all of them using the prompts because I came up with an alternate reality to write about that I kind of like.  Story 1 (that has no title yet and still only exists in my notebook) starts with Apophis invading Earth...but it's a slightly different Earth than we know.  Story 2 is about the forming of the SGP and SG-1 which is a bit different than ours.  I really want to write each story as a full fleshed out adventure piece but I don't have the time.  Which is why I'm considering scrapping the challenge and just following my muse.

At the pace I'm going I'd probably only finish about 5 stories before the end of the month.  Should have waited until May to do it.  The kids are also home on spring break this week and Easter is coming up (which means cooking a big meal and coloring eggs).  Oh well.
