jennickels: (a: random ramblings)
Yeah, it's one of those days that needs a list to stay organized.  Our impromptu trip to the coast yesterday ate into my weekend and now there's a ton of stuff to do.  Let's see how much I can actually get done (and I actually tend to get more done when I have a list online... keeps me accountable, I guess).

1. make list (HAH! one finished already)[noon]
2. empty dishwasher[noon]
3. refill dishwasher
[noon]
4. clean counters in kitchen[1pm]
5. clean up toys in family room[1pm]
6. clean up art room[1pm]--kids most did it
7. move boxes of summer clothes back to garage to keep kids from digging through it (it's only 50F out today, no need for tanks and shorts)[1pm]
8. pick up toys in living room and toss in box for kids to put away
[1pm]
9. vacuum living/family rooms and art room and kitchen (easier than sweeping)[1pm][4pm]
10. mop art room, hall and kitchen (really needs it)[4pm]
11. laundry[noon]
12. more laundry[4pm]
13. do MY laundry because I'm out of clean jeans after getting soaked at the beach
14. get 9yo to finish his damn school project that he's had all month to work on and is due on Wed.
15. give the baby a bath
16. get the kids to shower
17. have lunch at some point[noon]
18. watch last two episodes of Sanctuary
19. go through shoe bin and toss shoes that are totaled, don't fit or aren't worn
20. clean up kids bathroom or watch as they do it to be precise (I don't use that bathroom... they can clean the mess they make)
21. more laundry (it's never ending with 7 people in the house)[9pm]
22. make grocery list[4pm]
23. make short grocery list of things hubby can pick up after work
[4pm]
24. should probably put another load in the dryer!
25. 'bout time to do some writing: theme challenge #1 for stargateland[3:30pm]
26. maybe write story for theme challenge #2 for stargateland[7pm]
27. finish Jonas drabble
28. have some dinner (leftover chicken and cheesy potatoes is on the menu)[6pm]
29. TAKE A FREAKING SHOWER (don't even ask how long it's been, I feel gross)
30. organize my yarn ball collection that Jack destroyed... maybe while I watch Sanctuary (it's going to take awhile to detangle my poor yarn)
31. take recycling out to garage[noon]
32. get kids to clean their rooms
33. make my bed[2pm]
34. wonder if I could fit in another load of laundry before I fall asleep
35. clean off my desk... again (doesn't take long for everyone to toss stuff on it and clutter it all up)[2pm]
36. order hubby's birthday gift--I'm getting him the DVD collection of MacGyver
37. move old computer out to garage[1pm]
38. straighten up the gaming area[1pm]
39. clean up kitchen after dinner[6pm]
40. clean up kitchen after hubby gets home and makes his own dinner leaving the mess for me
[8pm]

Yeah, that's a lot.  Or it looks like it.  I like to break each task into tiny pieces.  Makes the list look longer but you accomplish more.  Like instead of just saying, "clean kitchen" I broke it down to each task I have in the kitchen.  Checking each thing off makes you feel good.  Started it with the kids so they would know exactly which things I wanted them to do and found it worked good for me, too.

I doubt I get all that done today but, with the kids help, I could get the important stuff done and have a semi-clean house to try and relax in.  My 8yo, Brenna, likes to help me clean.  She just came in and asked if she could turn the music on the TV on so she could clean.  And she's sick with the same cold I have.  She's just too good.  Nora (the 5yo) is helping her so that she can dance to the music but the oldest 2 are hiding in their rooms so I don't put them to work.

It's 10:40am here.  Let's see how much I can get done.  It's lunch time so no point in cleaning the kitchen until the kids have eaten.  Laundry it is, then, lol.  See ya all later.

Finished:
(from original fic Sunset)
It's a nightly ritual she observes without fail, climbing to the roof of her house through an attic window. Rory doesn't understand. He's accused of her of being crazy in the past. Sarah wonders if he will finally give up on her and leave. She doesn't think it really makes a difference now.

The sun creeps down and the air shifts, pushing her greasy hair into her face. She didn't have time to shower after work tonight.

In Progress:
(from untitled SG-1--Jonas fic)
Kelowna was filled with squat square brick buildings. Only recently did they start building larger structures filled with windows and steel. Earth was just filled with amazing things to see. Jonas watched them pass in a blur as Daniel finally maneuvered through the clogged city streets and into a residential area. The taller commercial buildings of Colorado Springs gave way to manicured lawns and small rustic looking ranch houses or little bungalows with bay windows. They weren't all that different than the kind of homes Jonas knew on Kelowna.

(from original fic for NaNo 2009)
Page rubbed the bridge of his nose as the ship shuddered under him. "Can we jump to lightspeed?"

"Not in the planet's atmosphere. It could cause a climactic feedback in the engines and- "

Page waved him off. "If we could get out of the atmosphere could we engage the jumpers?"

Threw this together for theme week challenge #1 at [livejournal.com profile] stargateland .  We had a list of prompts to write from and this is the one that grabbed me: 17- SG1, Cameron Mitchell & Daniel Jackson, mutant squirrels.  I mean "mutant squirrels"?  What's not to love?  I haven't written Cam before either which was kind of fun although I really didn't get to get into his personality.
