the stupidity, it hurts!
12 Apr 2012 05:41 pmOMG, I'm constantly amazed at the idiocy in this country. From the Free-Range Kids site:
"A community in Florida is prohibiting anyone under age 18 from going outside unchaperoned by an adult. Yep, just like in Taliban-held Afghanistan, except for “women must be accompanied by a male relative” over there, substitute “minors must be accompanied by their caregiver” over here. In Florida, the rule means:
WHAT THE FUCK? I mean seriously how do you even come to this decision. A 17yo can't go outside without Mommy watching him. What country are we in now? Is every HOA run my crazy, power-hungry dictators?
I just... I'm finding it hard to come up with cohesive things to say about this. It doesn't even sound legal, HOA or not. I'm not big on the protesting and stuff but if that ever happened in my town my ass would be at every protest rally until the rule was revoked. It's my right to parent my children, not some HOA or mayor or government agency. Letting kids play outside unsupervised is not neglect or child endangerment and I'm sick of that being implied (or just stated outright).
I say all that as my 10yo, 9yo and 6yo are all outside playing. Sans parents. Along with half the neighborhood. Not a parent in site. Which happens every single day here. I can't imagine them being forced to stay inside by some stupid law/rule. They want to spend every free moment outside. I have stuff to do nor do I want to sit on the porch or follow them around for hours just so they can get their exercise.
Remind me never to move to Florida.

This isn’t LIKE house arrest. It IS house arrest. How is this even legal? How is this America? How about a revolution?"…no bike riding, no walking to the bus stop without an adult. Some parents say their kids are under house arrest.
Ten-year-old Yousif Mehyer and his friends have been skateboarding and biking around their neighborhood for years. But for the past few weeks the kids have been stuck indoors.
“They felt like they were on house arrest,” said Nadia Mihyar, Ole resident.
They were scared of security at Ole Village in Lely Resort after being reprimanded for walking outside alone.
