jennickelsBored, so here's a meme I got from ami_ven. She gave me the letter A.
Something I hate: airtravel. I'm not afraid of flying. My husband works for an airline; It's part of our lives, and I know it's perfectly safe. I just don't like crowded places. I get very claustrophobic and anxious stuck in a tin can with 200 other people. Plus, takeoff and landing makes me sick to my stomach. Then there's also the stress of getting on the flights. We fly stand-by for free (because of Patrick's job), but airlines over always book in case people don't show up which means we only get on if the flight wasn't full to begin with or we're really, really lucky. Last time I flew anywhere was in 2013. Me and Meagan almost didn't get on the flight in Portland. There was a stop-over in Phoenix, but that flight wasn't fully booked, so we didn't have to worry about getting kicked off (because that can happen with our stand-by status). I flew home on my own--almost didn't get on in Chicago and came very, very close to getting bumped off my connecting flight in Denver. That would have really sucked.
Something I love: asparagus. One of my favorite vegetables, which is funny because I detested them as a child. I think it's because my dad made them from a can with butter and crumbled saltines--that's how his parents made them when he was a kid. It smelled and looked disgusting. I started cooking them fresh with just a touch of butter and salt. They are amazing.
Somewhere I’ve been: Astoria, Oregon. Who has seen The Goonies and not wanted to go to Astoria? It was my favorite movie when I was a kid--had the whole thing memorized and could recite it word for word from memory. Lucky me, I moved to the Pacific Northwest. We drive through Astoria almost every time we go to the coast--it's about three hours away. It's very pretty. I never did make it to the "Goonie House", though. The new owners put a tarp over it and blocked access because people were being dicks, trespassing and littering all over their property simply because the house was in a movie.
Somewhere I’d like to go: Australia. I really don't have much interest traveling outside of the US. I really want to just travel around it, exploring all of the states and our history, but if I had to leave the states (see my above hate of flying), I'd like to go to Australia.
Someone I know: Aunt Nora. She's my mom's older sister and was her best friend. She's amazing. I named my daughter after her because she once told me she hated her name--it was so boring--and because she means so much to me. She told me she cried when she got the birth announcement and saw what I named her--Nora Glenn, her middle name is after my mom, Glenna, who died in 2000.
A film I like: Avengers. I admit it--I avoided seeing the Marvel movies because I was never into comics. I wasn't interested. I caught bits and pieces of Iron Man 2 while my husband was watching it once, but that was it. Then he started watching Agents of SHIELD. I had absolutely no idea what was going on. I thought it was pretty interesting, but I got behind, so over the summer, I decided I wanted to catch up, but he told me I should watch the movies first so I'd know what was going on in season 2. Plus Jack got into them, so I had to know what he was talking about in his obsessed ramblings. I sat down and watched all of them that we had: Iron Man 1, 2 and 3, Avengers, Captain America and Thor. And, of course, I loved them all. Since then we've gotten Age of Ultron and the 2nd Thor movie, too. I haven't seen the 2nd Captain America because we only have the bluray copy which can only be watched from the xbox one in the living room, but I will watch it before the new movie comes out. Of the bunch, Avengers is my favorite. Having all of the characters in one movie is just epic.

I will admit though, because of my overseas childhood, I never did see the Goonies. My husband has suggested I watch it. I just shrug. At this point it's just become part of my quirky self. I actually used to confuse the Goonies and the Gremlins until the age of Google. Outside of the occasional pop culture reference, I'd never really heard them talked about and pop culture references tend to assume the people listening know the subject. The only reference I had for gremlins was the Twilight Zone episode with William Shatner. I watched a lot of the Twilight Zone...

It's mostly not fear, just that every time I fly (as rarely as possible), it seems like there's some new regulation or policy to make the process that much more unpleasant. I'm in San Antonio for work right now, and I have to fly tomorrow. It's the first time in years I've had to take a connecting flight, which is even worse, but there just weren't any direct flights home. Blah. I am not looking forward to it. Luckily I don't have to travel for work very often. I'm such a homebody.
