Today the kids actually requested salads for a pre-lunch appetizer (while I cooked their hot dogs). I suggest carrots and grape tomatoes but Owen asked for a salad. I'm so glad they are getting into eating salads. I used to see little kids in buffet restaurants loading up at the salad bar and wondered how their parents did it. Now I have 2 avid salad eaters and one that is so-so.
So what does everyone like on their salads. Every person is different. I like pretty plain salads. Lettuce, onion, tomato (prefferably cherry or grape), black and green olives, a few cucumber slices, some turkey and pepperoni, cheese and some croutons and the other day I put some sunflower nuts on my salad. I don't like dressing so I eat it plain.
Today, Owen had lettuce, grape tomatoes, some baby carrots, a piece of celery, green onions, a couple tiny chunks of green pepper, a thin slice of cucumber, pepperoni, cheese, croutons and ranch dressing. Brenna had the same except she had more of everything and had green olives, too. She ate it all but the carrots. Owen ate all but the tomatoes, but then ate those too when I asked him to.
Dh will eat a salad with pretty much anything on it and Meagan is the pickiest of all and will only have lettuce, a few tomatoes, cheese and maybe black olives if we have them. And dressing.
I think I'll start offering salads more often, not just with nice dinners. They can be a pain to get together, especially since everyone likes different things in them, but they are so much healthier then the crackers and pretzels the kids usually want.
Anyone else have kids that like salads? Brenna even ate two big bowl fulls when we went to Olive Garden the other day. She devoured it.
