I do my scrapbooking with photoshop elements (I'm using 7 right now because that's what's installed on this computer; I think the newest version is 10). I've used other programs and had a dedicated scrapbooking program when I first started but I had already been using a photo editing program so I was used to something more complicated. I switched to PSE years ago.
I always tell new scrappers to test out the photo editing software out there. PSE is available for a 30 day free trial at adobe.com. Paintshop Pro is out there. The other program I used was Ulead PhotoImpact but they were bought by Corel (that make PSP) so they don't make it any more. I liked it because it did things PSE didn't but it's not currently installed on my computer. :(
Being familiar with a program is a bonus because you can jump right in without learning how to use the software at the same time. Digital scrapping is definitely cheaper. The first year I did it I got everything free. Most sights offer free samples (there were more back then it seemed but they're still out there). I would just google it and check all the sites. There are some blogs that offer spectacular kits that are completely free. I buy a lot of my stuff now. Or I did when I was still scrapping. $7 for a kit that can be used over and over and over is still way cheaper than buying paper supplies that have to constantly be replaced.
Since I started posting those old pages I've made more of an effort to get all my scrapbooking stuff reinstalled in the PSE organizer so I can use them and start scrapping again. It's been years. I stopped at the end of 2009--just wore myself out and only made like 3 or 4 pages in all of 2010, nothing this year.
I have way too many hobbies. It's hard to balance time between them while dealing with the kids and finding time to cook and clean. Sigh. Why do they all have to be so much fun?
