For Day 6 of the [community profile] snowflake_challenge, the task is to create... something.

As a writer, my first thought was to, of course, write something, but my brain just doesn't cooperate these days. I can't just snap my fingers and be creative and write something. Even 100 word drabbles are too much. So I went about my day yesterday wondering what I could create.

Recently I've been working on an old The 100 fanfic I originally wrote in 2016 called Force of Nature. I eventually, finished the story and did major revisions in 2017 but then forgot about it. Last week I found the printed copy I was editing and decided to transcribe all of the changes I had made.

This has been an endeavor (the sheets are a mess of edits and notes in a rainbow of colors from over months of work), but I'm up to chapter 12 of 18? chapters. I don't remember what I added in 2017.

Anyway, last night I got inspired to brainstorm ways to expand the story so that the "slow burn" trope it uses is an actual slow burn over a much longer story. I ended up with over 6,000 words of notes which I then started to make into a useable outline.

So for the snowflake challenge I present two things I created:

First, a header (I use them when I post stories to my blog)

And the second is the beginning of the outline:

Chapter 1 - (CLARKE) - Friday
  • Clarke, Raven, Monroe, and Harper arrive at the campground and get lost
  • Clarke contemplates her relationship with Raven and how things are going to change after this last week hanging out together
  • They finally find their campsite; Harper immediately meets the boys and has Wick and Bellamy help gather firewood
  • Clarke meets Bellamy and doesn’t have a good first impression
  • Bellamy leaves and the girls sit around discussing how cute the boys are but Raven keeps comparing them all to Finn which makes Clarke feel sick
  • Harper and Monroe get annoyed with her because she promised not to mope during their vacation, so they go see what the guys are doing at their campsite
  • Clarke debates telling Raven right then because she shouldn’t be missing a boy this much who is cheating on her, but she can’t ruin their vacation—she’ll do it as soon as they get home at the end of the week
  • Harper calls them over and Raven decides to go have fun and forget about Finn for the rest of the day at least, but Clarke doesn’t leave right away because she’s so anxious
  • She keeps seeing Bellamy checking her out which annoys her because she came to spend time with Raven before everything ends, not hook up with boys, no matter how cute their freckles are
  • Eventually, Clarke joins the boys’ campsite (Bellamy says: finally deigned us with your presence, princess which upsets Clarke because Finn calls her princess)
  • The group discusses how they all know each other while Wick flirts with Raven
  • Raven says she has a boyfriend which gets Harper and Monroe going again because she promised, but Raven is like I’m just informing him he has no chance (Wick still thinks he has a chance)
  • Clarke gets a text from Finn and Bellamy says it’s rare to get texts here; she tells him it’s from Wells who is just checking to make sure they got there in one piece
  • She leaves to see if she can find a signal to text him back
Chapter 2 (BELLAMY) - Friday night
  • After Clarke leaves, Bellamy mentions she isn’t very friendly, but Raven defends her saying she’s under a lot of stress with school although she admits there seems to be something else bothering Clarke
  • Miller (maybe) asks if she has a secret boyfriend she’s texting, but Harper says that’s impossible because Clarke doesn’t have time for a boyfriend and would tell them if she found one
  • Octavia brings up that Bellamy dated Gina for months before telling her; Miller confirms that Bellamy didn’t tell him either (and what is up with that?)
  • Bellamy gets mad that they’re gossiping about his life—they tell him to loosen up—so he leaves and walks down the road
  • He heads in the same direction Clarke went contemplating  his life decisions and his friends and being mad at Octavia for bringing up old issues
  • He runs into three girls on the dark path (Roma, Bree, and Fox) who are trying to the bathrooms which are a little ways down the path but they’re scared of the dark
  • Bree and Roma start flirting with Bellamy and ask if he’ll walk them to the bathroom which he reluctantly agrees to (these are the girls that walk by in the first scene with Clarke)
  • Bellamy tries to ignore the girls even though Roma and Bree are coming on to him hard and Fox is holding his arm because she’s scared—he finds them all annoying and immature
  • They get to the bathroom and find Clarke trying to get a signal for her phone for her phone; she glares at Bellamy when he arrives with three girls hanging off of him
  • Roma and Bree continue to flirt with Bellamy in front of Clarke even though he’s annoyed, but Fox wants to go in the bathroom and drags them away
  • Bellamy tells Clarke she isn’t going to get a signal in the park, and it was amazing she got a text in the first place
  • Clarke tells him if she doesn’t text Wells back (the text was really from Finn), he’ll drive over to make sure she’s okay so Bellamy tells her about the pay phone at the ranger station near the entrance to the campground then offers to walk her
  • Clarke says he’s being sexist thinking she can’t handle walking to a phone herself, but he says it’s safer to walk in groups in the woods because of wild animals
  • Bellamy tries to give her fifty cents for the phone but she refuses to take his money (the phone only accepts coins)
  • Clarke says she can handle it on her own so Bellamy throws his hands up and goes inside the bathroom while Clarke stomps off down the road.
  • Bellamy thinks to himself how annoying Clarke is and how much he dislikes the princess type
  • When he leaves the bathroom, the three girls are waiting for him, and he reluctantly walks them back to their campsite which is several sites away from his own, but the girls follow him back to his campsite, getting looks from Miller and Wick
It's really not much. The header took me like five minutes of futzing around with an add-on I have for PSE. But when creativity is really limited by my mental and physical health, this is really good for me. I'm happy with the way the outline is turning out, although I'm not sure I'll ever go ahead and rewrite the story. But it's something.
