why being pregnant can suck...
28 Jan 2006 11:46 pmI'm sick. I caught a cold the other day. Actually I was all fine and dandy, but woke up the next day (Friday) sick. It started with a scratchy throat and now I have a cough and sore throat and chest congestion. YUCK! So far no one else is sick, but it is only a matter of time.
Now being sick is bad enough, but add in being pregnant, too--and it really sucks. Because my throat is so sore and scratchy all I have wanted to do today is drink cold liquids, like all the time. Just over the last couple of hours I have had 1 glass of OJ and about 5 glasses of water (these are 12oz glasses). So as a consequence I have had to get up and pee 4 times in the last hour. It SUCKS!!!!! No sooner do I sit back down and I feel I have to go again and with in a few minutes my bladder is full and the baby is kicking it and I feel like I might pee my pants.
I remember when I was pregnant with Owen it was even worse. I had edema really bad (that's swelling for those that don't know) so the best advice was to drink more and stay off my feet--yeah right. Drink more? I know that is what you should do for edema but how can you stay off your feet then. I remember one day I went to the bathroom 5 times in a half hour. It was actually about 5 minutes in between each trip. I was never off of my feet. And I sure couldn't take care of Meagan, who was 14 months old at the time. It was crazy. Needlesstosay the swelling just kept getting worse. The day I went to have him I couldn't get my socks on (they were too tight around the ankles) and I couldn't tie my shoes. I had to let out the laces about 3 holes to have just enought to tie a small knot to keep them on. My sandals also didn't fit. The straps just weren't long enough. My pant legs were even tight around my legs. I couldn't wait to have him. But the swelling didn't go down until weeks after he was born. I never swelled that bad with the girls.
Those are the two things that suck most about being pregnant. Oh, that and my hips. If I'm on my feet for too long (especially if I'm bending down a lot--like cleaning) I end up in so much pain I can't move the rest of the day. My hips feel like they are coming out of their sockets. It can be awful. Then they lock up and I can't get off the floor or out of my chair. Which makes the bathroom trips all the more difficult.
Well, it looks like it's time to make another trip down the hall to the bathroom. Then I'm going to collect by blanket and pillows and heating pad from my room and lay down to watch TV. I took some Tylenol PM to help my sore throat and I think the PM part is starting to hit me. I feel sleepy and a little loopy. Toodles for now.
