19 Sep 2007 08:25 pmlong overdue update.
sorry i haven't updated in forever. i've had so much going on and didn't actually have an internet connection on my computer. i was using my dad's and could only get on once in awhile. i just got my computer hooked up the other day so i'm back online.
this is what has happened in the last 2 months with me:
me and patrick were separated and near a divorce. he said he didn't love me and didn't want to be with me anymore. we fought a lot and had some actual good conversations about our relationship. i was sure he was done with me and was preparing myself to be a single, working mother of 4 when he suddenly asked to come home. pretty much everyone i know acted like they wanted to smack me upside the head for letting him. but i don't care. i know him better then anyone else and i know me and we have both changed because of the separation. it took him a month and a half to get over whatever it was that was bothering him and to realize where he wanted to be.
so patrick moved back in on sept 2. he's off work because he hurt his back so he's been home every day. he hangs out with the kids, takes us places, watches TV with me and we talk. it's been real nice. only problem is we lost our queen sized futon in the move so we are sharing a twin bed (which isn't easy). we kind of take turns on the couch every few days so we can get some good sleep. it's been 2 1/2 weeks and so far so good.
the kids started school. they were going to go to the public school but they have controlled enrollment and don't accept transfer students. they had no room for meagan so they were going to bus her to some other school in the city, but didn't know where. so there was a chance my 7 year old would be going who knows where and be on a regular schedule and owen (who they had to accept as a new kindergarten student at our school) would be going year round. what bugged me most is they didn't know where they would send meagan and they couldn't start until they had all their physicals (medical, dental and eye) and you can't just snap your fingers and get those--we don't even have a dentist and are still looking for one. the school year had already started in july or august (depending on what track you are on at our local school) so they were falling farther and farther behind. so my dad enrolled them at the catholic school.
now i went to catholic school all my life (college was my first public school) and it was a great experience for the most part and a good education but we are not catholic. we don't even believe in god which poses a problem. the school didn't really seem to care as long as they got their tuition (which my dad is paying). so they started on the 4th. they looked adorable in their uniforms, i must say.
it's been 2 weeks and owen is loving school. he says he still doesn't believe in god and thinks church is boring (they've had one mass so far) and the idea of drinking the blood of jesus was gross (that was what he came away with after his first mass and it freaked him out). he is making friends and goes on his first field trip on oct 1 which happens to be his 6th birthday. they are going pumpkin picking.
meagan isn't liking 2nd grade as much as 1st. it is harder and she has to remember to do things herself now--like bring home her homework and hand in papers and stuff. she doesn't like it that much. she is making a bunch of friends and, oh gosh, she is the tiniest kid in class. owen is the 2nd tallest in his class and meagan is smaller then most of the 1st graders. she is at least 5" shorter then the next tallest kid. her uniform is a size 5, lol. she throws a fit every morning because she doesn't want to go to school and won't eat her lunch because she doesn't like anything i give her. they qualified for the free lunch program but meagan forgot to hand in her order form for october so i have to make her lunch next month (should be fun). she is going pumpkin picking, too, but on october 2. i'm waiting to see about signing her up for brownies again. she loved it last year and made a bunch of friends and i want her to do it again this year. they have a troop at her school so i'm just waiting to hear from the leader.
brenna is going to miss out on preschool, it looks like. with everything going on i forgot to sign her up and they are all filled up now. her doctor said to get a speech evaluation through the public school so they might take her if she is far enough behind (she also has some developmental delays--at least i think she does). she also has to see a neurologist to check on some staring spells she has and make sure she isn't having seizures. i don't think that is what it is but there is something going on with her. she gets all weird sometimes. there are times she will run up to me all excited to tell me something. but because of her speech problems she can't think of how to say what she wants to say and loses her train of thought (everyone does it occasionally) but when you ask her what she was trying to say she just stares at you blankly like she doesn't even remember she was talking to you, then shrugs and walks away with a confused look on her face. it is freaky. she also goes on oct. 6 to get her eyes checked and see if she needs her glasses again. i'm kind of hoping she does and that is the reason she is behind on her writing and coloring. she will be 5 in a month and a half and she still can't color in the lines and mostly scribbles. she just started drawing stick figures a few months ago and can barely draw a straight line and can't write her own name yet. she did trace some perfect circles today which is progress. other then that she is healthy. she is super clingy, though. my little shadow, i call her, because she always half a step behind me. after daddy left she was terrified of me going too and refused to let me out of her sight. and if i did go somewhere without her she was anxious and asking for me every 5 minutes. even if i go to the bathroom she follows me upstairs and stands outside the door. now that daddy is back she is doing it to him, too. she checks on us both every half hour if she is playing upstairs.
nora is clingy, too. she wakes up every morning asking for daddy or starts looking for him as soon as her feet hit the floor. i'm not sure what she will do when he is back to work. pretty much all she talks about is daddy. and owen. she did not take it well when he started school. when we started to walk away after owen was in the building nora started screaming at the top of her lungs for "bubby" and cried all the way home and most of the day. it's been 2 weeks and she still spends half the day wandering around the house calling owen or owie or bubby looking for him. when owen is home she follows him everywhere and drives him nuts. every morning she gives him a big hug before he leaves. she is so cute. she just adores her brother. she is really talking now, too. she says all sorts of things and cracks us up with her antics. she is a troublemaker, too, and into everything. she keeps me on my toes, for sure, more then even owen did sometimes.
meagan is now up to 38.4lbs and 46 1/4"
owen is 51lbs and 47" (although i think he is taller because he looks a lot taller then meagan)
brenna is also 38.4lbs but only 42"
and nora is about 24lbs and like 32". she doesn't go for her checkup until the 10th. she is getting big, though. she is 24month or 2T pants now and they are just a little long on her. she also wears a 5 1/2 shoe.
