Dougan Falls ~ Washougal, WA


We went there once last summer.  Yes, it gets hot way up here.  Last summer we had almost two months straight with highs in the upper 90s.  It sucked.  A lot of people don't have AC so they go to Dougan Falls to stay cool.  It's a great swimming hole and the whole park is just gorgeous.  This was from the bridge you drive over going into the park.

I wish I would have gotten a picture when we drove up this old logging road to the top of a ridge.  It looked out over the river gorge and the landscape went on forever with no sign of civilization.  But, by that point I was having a full blown panic attack after driving the road (it's super narrow with nothing to keep you from plummeting 100 feet to the river below).  It was freaking scary.  But there was a great payoff at the top if I hadn't been so freaked out, lol.

I love living in the Pacific Northwest.  It's so beautiful up here.

Have gotten behind on writing this.  I keep trying to work on chapter 10 but my family has other plans for me.  Sigh.

Jack felt like a coward. There was no hemming around that one. He walked along the edge of the lake trying to ignore the quiet sobs coming from the hollowed out tree he'd made their home in. It just wasn't right. None of this. He sighed in frustration, picking up a few small stones to skip across the placid water. He watched each one plink a line of circles. The tiny waves crashed against each other causing chaos on the surface of the water. He felt that a fitting mirror of his soul at the moment.
