still need that story help
30 Jul 2014 02:18 pmI got a lot of great ideas for gifts that Jack would give Sam, but none of them will work right for the story I'm writing.
I've written gift fic before. My first SG_1 story was a Christmas story that I wrote on Christmas in 2010 (was up at 4 putting presents out, got an ides and decided to just stay up and writing--I crashed around 10 am after presents and stuff). Anyway, figuring out the presents at the end was the hardest part. I think Teal'c gave her a spa package so she could get away from them all for awhile. Daniel got her a pretty scarf (and sweater, I think), and Jack got her a book on fishing. Obviously an inside joke with them. Daniel didn't get it, but Teal'c did and had to practically explain it to Daniel. For the record, they'd had a lot to drink that night, lol.
Okay, the requirements for this fic.:
Takes place at Christmas.
It has to be small, fitting in his pocket.
It can't be super intimate like jewelry unless it's a replacement for something she lost (which might actually work, say if she lost a necklace that was her mother's and Jack finds one just like it)
It has to show that he cares and knows her well enough to know what she likes.
It can't be too obvious to everyone else that the gift was meant as more than just a friendly gift.
Some details:
Takes place some time after the Za'tarc thing. Things have been really awkward and strained between them and Sam (POV character) doesn't know what to make of it.
I think the confusion of emotions would affect the type of gift he'd give her. They basically admitted strong feelings for each other, but Sam pretty much said to forget about it. I think that would change the kind of gift he'd give her.
Any suggestions? Otherwise I think I'll go with the lost jewelry thing.
It's actually a thing I was going to use in another story (an original one). Except in that story the girl had to pawn her grandmother's wedding ring after her parents cleaned out the savings and abandoned her. The boy next door that she's known forever and has a crush on even though he's always been a pain to her, figures out she's living alone and buys back the ring which he eventually gives to her to show he's grown up and not the annoying kid next door anymore. Also, he's in love with her. Typical YA romance stuff.
