snurched from [livejournal.com profile] xfirefly9x because I'm bored and procrastinating from cleaning the house

one. post a picture of yourself:

haha, that's pretty old but I don't feel like digging around to find the most recent one

two. favourite mythical creature:
I don't think I have a favorite mythical creature

three. popular series you don’t like:
most of them, the shows I like always seem to be on the bubble of being canceled

four. an interesting/weird talent:
um, I can read and knit at the same time (while rocking a baby in a carseat with my foot)

five. favourite animal:
cat, preferably orange and stripey

six. three meaningful objects:
my wedding band, my old, beat up recipe box (it was my mom's and I always liked it as a kid--it still has all her recipes in it), my oldest Christmas ornament (a blown glass bear that I was given at birth, originally I had 3--the bear, an angel and a clown, but the other two broke--I'm the only one allowed to touch it and hang it on the tree, it's very fragile).  and if I still had it: the pendant with my mom's ashes in it.  It was probably my most treasured possession until it got lost in a move years ago.  *sniff*

seven. biggest fears:
That I'll fail as a parent.

eight. things you like to collect:
magnets mostly, fanfiction on my e-reader, lol (I've only read a fraction of it), yarn (way too much to ever use it all... but it's so pretty)

nine. a random interesting/weird fact:
I'm not interesting.  Um... I can't use a phone.  Every time I try to call someone I have a panic attack, same goes with answering the phone even if I know who it is.  I only use my phone to text my husband and play games, lol.

ten. favourite gaming console:
we only have an xbox 360 and the computer (oh, and the kids all have DSs), I don't really play games any more, they give me motion sickness

eleven. top five fictional crushes (TV only):
Jack O'Neill (can I just put him five times?  No... ok), Castle, Jack Carter, Angel, Hyde (That 70s Show)

twelve. introvert or extrovert:
Introvert.

thirteen. something you want right now:
peace and quiet

fourteen. where you’re from and where you wish you were from:
Chicago, IL born and raised, I can't imagine being from anywhere else

fifteen. one thing you like and hate about yourself:
not much I like any more, too much hate to really discuss here

sixteen. a series you wish would continue:
Any of my favorites.  But right now... The River (I actually really liked it), The Finder (boo at FOX, they pulled a Firefly on it, airing all the episodes out of order and canceling after 1 season--at least they aired all the eps, though). Definitely Eureka.  Syfy sucks!

seventeen. screenshot of your desktop:

(that's Mt Hood as seen when crossing the I-205 bridge between Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR)

eighteen. favourite flavour of ice-cream:
double fudge brownie or cookies & cream

nineteen. a hobby you’d die without:
I'd like to say it's something more cerebral like writing but it's TV watching.  When I had my nervous breakdown the only think keeping me stable was hiding in my room and watching TV (anything that required little brain power)

twenty. a tumblr trend you hate:
I don't use tumblr really (I do have one, though)

twenty-four. one thing you’ll definitly do in your lifetime:
write a novel... I hope

I love how this meme is getting around ;)
Sci-fi cancel's all shows remotely related to sci-fi....in favour of wrestling. *swares at them*
You can read and knit and rock at the same time?! Oh my gosh you must be a superhero, or my nanna! :) She is half blind and knitted a cardigan when we had "a bit of wool left over" !
Jack is a great name :)
The Sims <3 I LOVE The Sims <3

Syfy is the Fox of cable TV. That whole thing with Eureka pissed me off.

I'm not a superhero, just a mom. You have to know how to multitask to have kids, especially if there are more than 1, lol. I'm constantly surprised at the weird things I can do all at once.

And Jack is the most awesome name. I totally admit I named my youngest son after Jack O'Neill because I'm a geek like that. My husband refuses to acknowledge that. But he got to name our oldest son after a wrestler, Owen Hart so we're even now.

The Sims is awesome but I miss the weather from Sims 2. I just can't seem to find time to play it. It takes forever to load on my computer although it runs fine and I'm always interrupted. But mostly it's because while I'm playing I keep thinking I should be finishing such and such chapter/story or cleaning the house. And then I feel guilty.

Plus Sims is a HUGE timesuck. You turn it on in the morning and the next thing you know it's 2am and you're still in your pajamas, haven't eaten all day, the kids have gone savage without any supervision and your house looks like a tornado hit it, lol.

Sci-fi is loosing the plot quite badly yes.

I'dunno. I'd definitly call my mum a superhero :D I more mean't that knitting is very difficult and I can barely watch anything or have a conversation when I knit because next thing you know I've dropped a stitch or added a stitch or worse still I've split a stitch!

Ahaha, that is epicness about naming him after Jack O'Neill!

OHmygosh I miss the weather from sims2 as well. Perhaps it would just make Sims 3 run WAY to slowly?

And yes that's so true about sims. I don't have kids yet, but I am married and more time's than I care to admit I've still been awake when he has gotten up for work! (Alot alot!)

It's taken years of practice to be able to knit and do other things. It was kind of a necessity with all the kids. I don't really knit much any more because the kids constantly interrupt me and I forget where I am and screw up my count.

I'm pretty sure I have ADD or something because I can't knit if I'm not doing something else at the same time. TV works the best.

I taught myself to knit back in 2004, I think. I also crochet, sew and quilt (although I haven't done any of those in years).

Haha that makes me feel bad because I've known how to knit since I was a little girl, never kept at it though even though I crazy enjoy it. I'm sure if I kept at it I'd get better quickly. My Nanna has been knitting since she was nine! That's like seventy years or so!

Wow, I would love to get that good at knitting one day (I will def. want to knit thing's from my kids when I have them)

That's cool! I also crochet but worse than I knit. I recently learnt how to sew and I enjoy that too, but I only had sew as I don't have a machine. And I would LOVE to quilt. I'm only 25 haha I'm so young to want to do all that stuff.

I was about that age when I started learning. I taught myself to quilt first, right after my mom died. I was 23. She had made me a baby quilt (my oldest was born 7 week before she died) and one for my cousin (whose son was born the week before my oldest). She had also planned to make a blanket for my other cousin whose baby was due a few months after mine. But then she died. So just after the baby was born I got out her sewing machine, found the instructions, learned to thread it and figured out how to sew. Those first two blankets I made were horrible but my cousin (and my aunt, I gave her one, too because it was her first grandbaby and she was my mom's best friend) loved it.

After that I got better. My kids used those blankets for years. Quilting is pretty addictive once you get going. The fabrics are all so pretty and it can be fun to plan out a quilt. I only do simple squares and patterns. My actual quilting is also just straight lines and I only make baby sized quilts. I just don't have the room or patience to do anything bigger.

After that it was an easy leap to learn to sew clothes. I made Halloween costumes for the 3 older kids when they were little (they were 2, 3 and 4).

That was also the year I learned to knit (I would have been 27). The next year I taught myself to crochet.

I went kind of crazy with the knitting when I was pregnant with my last baby. There just wasn't much else to do, I was so tired all the time and exhausted from cleaning house and walking everywhere (had no car) that it was all I could do to just sit there and knit. He had so many cute little hats and sweaters when he was born. The nurses at the hospital referred to him as the "hat baby" because he had a different one each day, lol.

Knitting is probably my favorite. I can be very relaxing and the repetitive nature lets my mind focus on other things while keeping my hands busy. Which is good for the ADD, lol.

I've tried to teach my kids to knit but I just don't have the patience.

I love orange stripey cats! My current cats aren't orange but are very stripey :)

I'm so sad about Eureka. Syfy really does suck, right down to their stupid misspelling of a name.

Video games make me motion-sick too. More and more things do as I get older. That's definitely the worst way I take after my mom. Why couldn't I have gotten her super organizational skills instead? *sigh*

I've had many, many cats over the years (we got our first ones when I was 9 or 10) but none of them were orange.

Now my son is severely allergic to them so we couldn't have one even if our landlady allowed it. He told me that when he grows up and moves out of the house he'd going to get me an orange cat because I couldn't have one all the years he was little. Sad part is my son loves cats, too. We had 2 when he was a baby (both black, one was the original cat we got when I was 9 or 10--he was almost 20 years old) but we had to get rid of them when he was 1 because of various reasons.

4 years later he developed the allergy. It's really scary when he has a reaction (full face swelling up, hives, eye swelled shut, lips turning blue). Freaks me out. Just being in a room where a cat was causes his face to swell and his eyes go completely blood shot. Heck he can get that from playing with a kid that has a cat because the hairs are on their clothes.

He's also allergic to dogs but the reaction isn't as severe. We have to keep lots of Benadryl in the house and car just in case he has a reaction (every single one of his friends as a dog and/or cat).

The motion sickness makes me mad. I LOVED roller coasters when I was a kid. I can no longer go on the looping ones or I get so sick I can't move. I haven't been on any in 12 years so I'm not sure how I would do on the non-looping kind but watching them would probably give me a headache. The kids like to go to a park with a merry-go-round and I can't watch them playing on it without getting a migraine and feel like throwing up. Going on it is not an option. Ugh.
