This has come up while I've been working on a few stories. It's been awhile since I've done a full rewatch so a lot of the details are fuzzy. I'm never sure if they are canon, fanon, or just my own personal canon as I've interpreted events.
I was rereading a few older stories I started where Jack and Kawalsky have been friends for a long time. In my head that was just canon. Then I rewatched Children of the Gods and Kawalsky mentions that in all the time he served with Jack he never knew he had a son. Hmmm, that sounds weird. If they had been good friends why wouldn't he know that. So my head canon got all mixed up.
So opinions:
Jack and Kawalsky: friends for a long time, but didn't keep in contact after Jack had Charlie; friends for a long time and stayed close ignoring the comment in Children of the Gods; were never really friends, just worked together?
Opinions?
Are there any other instances of details that have a canon version (if people remember), a fanon one (that has persisted through different fics) or something you just have in your head?
I'm just curious. I've been writing a lot of alternate realities and just trying to keep the fact straight from one to the other to the actual canon is getting confusing.

The Daniel/Vala & Cam/Vala fandoms perpetuated the trope of Cam calling Vala "princess". For some reason, we thought it had actually been said in canon. Turns out, nope, it was just a plausibly clever nickname from a widely-read fic that got copied amongst fanfic writers.
Oh, ya know one Stargate cliché I CANNOT STAND? "The good doctor..." OMG. Janet, Carolyn, and Carson get called that so many frelling times in fic IT MAKES ME CRINGE. I don't know why I hate it so much, but maybe because it seems to imply that other SGC doctors aren't good? It just sounds so damned condescending. I want to beat it with sharp pointy sticks.

In my head canon, they've been friends forever. Close friends at some point. It's kind of weird that Jack's son has the same name as Kawalsky. And in Point of View that Kawalsky is/was best friends with Jack.
