OMG, Patrick has been back to work for almost two week and it's heaven. My life has been a mess since he hurt his arm again. I have this thing where I cannot do housework when he's around. It pisses me off that he won't help, and in fact, makes more of a mess. It's bad enough with the kids, but he's a grown man. So I just don't do anything when he's home usually.
The first week he went back, I was kind of lazy--it was the last week of classes, and I was stressed out, but last week I was off. I've gotten so much done around the house in just a few days. It feels good. I've accomplished things.
I did the kitchen the first day. Then the family room (aka the adult's living room). Then yesterday I worked on the dining room (aka the art room) and the hallway. Of course every single day I have to start over and redo the kitchen, family room, etc, because everyone messes it up which is annoying.
My dad was completely impressed. Actually he seemed shocked, like he didn't think I knew how to keep house. My house always looked this neat before my breakdown a few years ago. Then I stopped caring. It took too much energy to keep things even half way decent, and in the last few months I've actually taken a "wonder how huge of a mess they can make" attitude. But with Patrick back to work, I feel like a slug just sitting around and not contributing to the family. It's not like I have an infant to take care of any more. Jack spends most of his day playing Pikmin on the Wii (talk about obsessed). School starts back up tomorrow so not sure if I'll be able to balance things. It depends on how tough my lit class gets.
I'm mostly taking today off--I did clean the counters and load the dishwasher when I got up. The kids' living room (which is what you see when you walk in the door) is a disaster and the kids' bathroom (the main bathroom in the house) is so disgusting I threw up in my mouth a little the other day. I can't believe the kids are okay with having friends over that have to use the bathroom--it's so gross. I'll probably work on that Tuesday since Patrick has off tomorrow and I have homework and errands to run.
Some pictures:

I know everyone thinks my messy house is barely messy considering I have five kids, but all the clutter and garbage everywhere drives me nuts. There's no reason to find dishes on the floor, empty soda cans stuffed in toy boxes, clothes all over the living room and dishes covering every inch of counter space so I can't use it. We have a dishwasher for crying out loud. The kitchen took about three hours to clean (I also had to do the inside of the fridge which was disgusting since Patrick would never ever think to clean it).

Date: 9 Mar 2015 01:52 am (UTC)I need to clean our kitchen too. It's currently cluttered with about 3 loads of dishes to wash up and no counter space free. Starting to irk me somewhat...

Date: 9 Mar 2015 11:42 pm (UTC)My family refuses to put stuff in the sink neatly so you can fit more. In fact they refuse to do anything that would make my life easier. So far the kitchen is still clean--because I get up every day and do dishes and scrub the counters.
