So, with the 2006 NASCAR season almost upon us, dh decided to get a DVR from our cable company. He didn't want to spend another year missing all the races and having to call me every hour to get updates.

It's pretty neat. It's a dual channel one so we can record two different shows at the same time. I can now record Veronica on Wednesdays while we watch Bones and then watch it after dh goes to bed--YAY! It is only going to cost us about $5 more on our bill each month, which isn't bad. I'm afraid to see what our bill will be, though. Rates just went up and I think next month our promotional price we were paying for internet ends. Last bill was $94. Next month it should be like $120 or something. Egads. Oh well. It is like the only extra bill we have, other then our cell phones (which is $68 and our only phone access).

We bought a Panasonic DVR about two years ago, and I both love it and hate it. It's only a single channel DVR, unfortunately, and it gets cranky about collecting the TV guide listings often (so, we've given up setting records by show and just set up timers instead).

But it has an 80 hour hard drive, so going away for a couple of weeks in the middle of the winter means that we still get our shows ;)

The male half keeps promising that one of the random computers sitting around the house will be turned into a freevo one of these days (a homemade DVR that can also act as a server and be accessed from any television in the house if we get it all set up right). He was surfing the Dell site when I wandered into the home office this morning, and I don't know if that is a promising or worrying thing.

(No, you don't want to know how many computers two computer geeks can collect in a decade . . . and everything prior to the Pentium Is have been recycled at this point ;)

my computer came with a DVR setup (just plug your cable in and record) but I don't have it connected. It had a pretty big harddrive to go with it, but I've filled it with other random stuff and games. It even has a nifty remote.

My dad has (or had) 3 CPUs in his office in the basement. I never figured out why he needed all of them because 2 were worthless. One was the one he got me when I was a freshman in college (so it is OLD!) and I got rid of it because it wasn't working anymore. Then he got an old one from a friend and used it more as an extra harddrive. Then finally he went out and bought a real computer.

I'm on my 3rd computer in 10 years. my first my dad bought in 95. I don't remember all the specs but I do remember it had a 1.6gig hard drive, lol. And we got the whole thing (CPU, monitor--that my dad is still using, and printer) for like $3500. YIKES! The one we had before this was a gateway that we bought online in 99 for about $2500. That came with a new printer and all the delivery charges. The one we have now is a sony we got at best buy for $1300 at the beginning of 2003. I got it just so I could play the Sims 2 when it came out. Well, that, and we needed a new computer, lol. I wish we had a second one for the kids to play their little educational games. I don't like them on my computer because they always mess something up when I'm not looking.
