I'm so totally blocked on anything I HAVE to write. That's so frustrating.
stargateland has a short challenge due on Wednesday. It's real simple: write about a character on their day off. I mean, that should be simple. It only has to be 100 words. Piece of cake!
Except I can't think of a single thing to write. Or maybe it's because I can't seem to concentrate. Sims 3 is a major timesuck. Oy.
That's not even getting into
het_bigbang I have to do or the
sg1friendathon . I haven't started either of them. Triple UGH!
I DID write something last night, though. I sat down to work on the off the clock challenge and just stared at the blank page. Got frustrated so checked my email (nothing new). Stared at the page a little while longer. Went to the bathroom. And a line came to my head: she was glowing and not that metaphorical, she's pregnant glowing; now Vala was glowing for real--a sickish yellow-green color. I hurried up in the bathroom (because I ALWAYS do my best thinking in there) and jotted down the line on a clean sheet of paper.
Next thing I knew I had several pages written. What I intended to be a short (less than 1000 words) snippet of Daniel/Vala has turned into an actual little adventure. The writing is total crap (way below even my normal 1st draft quality). I cringed as I wrote it but I'm feeling sick again with a sore throat and having trouble focusing so I was just thrilled to get anything down. I'll fix it later.
That was great and all but I have challenges due. I need inspiration!
Anyone want to toss out some ideas? What exactly would SG-1 (old or new or any of the characters) do on their day off? I was thinking of doing something from Cam's POV where he tries to take a day off but ends up doing more outside of the mountain than if he had hung out inside. I was thinking he goes for a jog, has to clean his apartment, works on his car, then Vala ropes him into running errands with her (since she has to have an escort to leave the SGC and doesn't have a car). In the end he's more tired after his day off than if he had worked.
Something along those lines. See, the idea is in my head but the actual writing escapes me. My head hurts too much to get the thoughts from my brain onto paper/screen. Sigh.
And onto the disconnect update. The bill is due today so I expect them to shut off the cable in the next couple of days. I'm trying to finish up anything online that needs to be done (looking up stuff, finishing challenges, downloading fanfic, etc). My husband mentioned he can get a wifi signal outside the Safeway so I'm assuming the Starbucks inside offers it. I'm going to try to walk over there every day (weather permitting) and log on with my e-reader. It's a pain to type on but at least I can find out what's going on and twitter/update my facebook. I'm going to see if the library offers free wifi, too. I would think they would this being the 21s century and all but it's a small town so who knows. They only have like 2 computers so it would be a pain to try and get access to them. Plus it's a 2 mile walk into town. My husband said we could go over to Borders, too, to get a wifi signal. That won't happen until we get more money (after payday on the 20th).
As to when I'll have real access again? Not sure. We owe a LOT of money to the cable company but my husband is fed up with their crappy customer service and their non-working website. We might not be so behind on payments if they'd freaking send us a bill but they refuse. Once you sign up for paperless billing (which we somehow ended on--wasn't me, I like having the actual paper unless we're doing autopay) they won't let you switch back. Calling them just bounces you from person to person and they do nothing. I signed up for email alerts so I'd at least know when to check online for the bill. I got one alert and never heard from them again. So we're done with them.
He's decided we're cancelling them despite being under a 2 year contract. He's already looked it up and it will cost us $300 to cancel our contract. On top of the $500 they say we owe them. Crazy.
So we're going to get Comcast. I know a lot of people hate them but we've had few issues and have had cable and/or internet through them since 2005 in two different states (PA and IL). Problem is we don't have a modem/router any more. We left them behind in Chicago so my dad could keep our Comcast internet hookup. I think I found an older model that will work okay for now. Like I told my husband the modem we got when we were in PA (in 2005) was end of the life at the time and we used it until 2010 when we finally gave up and had to buy a newer model because things were running so slooooooooow and we kept getting disconnected.
So, that's the plan. Now we just have to work out the budget after the 20th. We still have to pay off our current cable company. Then we have to buy the modem/router. Then we have to order the Comcast and wait for them to hook us up. I'm not sure how complicated that will be. They've just branched into our neighborhood. I talked to the guy last month about it and he made it sound simple. I'm assuming the infrastructure is already in place (I would hope... but you never know).
It still probably won't be until after the 5th before we are back online. I guess, though, that I'll get a ton of exercise walking the mile to Safeway every day to use their wifi. Gotta find the positive. I've been wanting to get out walking more. This is the perfect motivation.
Anyway, whenever I finally get back online I plan to have a bunch of fic for everyone. I might open things up to prompts. Hopefully I'll have most of my big challenges mostly done, too. That is if I can stay away from the Sims.

Anyway...
YAY Daniel/Vala adventure! I find that when I'm writers-blocked, watching an episode helps a lot.
