And here's the other story from my sneak peek post yesterday.  This one is also Sam/Jack but a lot cheerier.  The prompt was "back to work".  As usual I started thinking this would be short and it just went off in it's own direction.

Back in Action
by jennickels (aka Jen Connelly)
Stargate SG-1
Jack/Sam
1522 words
rating: PG-13
WARNINGS: slight cussing

Jack's feeling a little down when it takes longer than usual for him to heal after a mission. But Carter shows up to raise his spirits and help him out. If only his body can handle that on top of the injuries.

It takes a lot longer to heal this time. That's probably a sign to throw in the towel. But Jack plugs on. He sits up in bed with a groan, hands rubbing at the scruff on his face—he hasn't bothered to shave since he left the SGC over a week ago. Not much point in it anyway when he's just sitting around his house. Actually it's a bit of a luxury.

This was written for a challenge at [livejournal.com profile] writerverse.  My three random words were betray, sadness and radio.  And this is what came to me.  Enjoy.

Bad Timing
by jennickels (aka Jen Connelly)
Stargate SG-1
Daniel/Vala, Cam/Vala mentioned
1097 words
rating: PG
WARNINGS:

Set sometime after season 10. Daniel is finally ready to move ahead with his life but he's not expecting the surprise that comes out of Vala's room late one night. And he's not sure he'll ever get over it.

The room's dark, but Daniel likes it that way. And the song on the radio is depressing and full of sadness. That's okay with him, too. It fits his mood. He's on the floor—he thinks in his bedroom—still dressed in the clothes he wore yesterday. He has no idea how long he's been lying there. Time seems to have little meaning, just blurring together along with his vision. Last thing he remembers is popping open his fifth beer. Things get fuzzy after that.

So here's one of the stories I posted about yesterday.  I've renamed it "The Promise".  It was written for another [livejournal.com profile] writerverse challenge using the prompt: promise.

Stargate SG-1
Jack/Sam
753 words
rating: PG-13
WARNINGS: death of major character

If there were ever words Jack O'Neill regretted more he couldn't think of any.

I promise.

He could shoot himself for saying that. He could shoot himself for a lot of things. He can't lie that the thought of his gun in his mouth hadn't comforted him. Briefly. It should have been him any way.

So yesterday I posted about how I had a sudden writing inspiration and finished two stories (which are now posted).  But the groove didn't end there.  After I ate dinner I spent a little time playing Sodoku and reading Catching Fire (which I finished last night).  Once I got the kids to bed I decided I just had to do some more writing.

Next thing I knew I had edited the two stories from earlier in the day (adding quite a bit to them) and then I started on something new.  Which ended up being almost 1100 words long (that one is posted, too...the Daniel/Vala one).  That just ramped up my urge to write.  So I started on another story.  It was one I tried to write a few weeks ago but couldn't get past the first few paragraphs.  This time it just all flowed out and next thing I knew I had 23 pages hand written!

To compare...
The Daniel/Vala story was 6 1/2 pages long and with only a little added as I typed it ended up being 1100 words.  The other story is probably around 4000 words.

My hand was KILLING me when I got done.  I could barely move my wrist.  That was 3 1/2 hours straight of writing.  But I HAD to finish that story.  I was afraid if I stopped I'd lose the groove and never finish it.

Now I just have to type it.  I'm kind of dreading that because it's so long, lol.

Here's a little sneak peek:
Kody fidgets with his watch.  Jake watches the way his fingers twist the band over and over, wondering why he never noticed this nervous tick before.  Or the scar that encircles the pinky on his left hand.

Maybe it's because he's been too busy trying to ignore those details.

"Kody-" he starts but he's immediately interrupted.

"Don't."

Confusion settles into his brain, pushing out his other musings.  "Don't what?"

"Do this.  Act all... superior."

Anger glares.  "I'm not being superior."

"What do you want?"

Jake glares at his friend.  Other than the shove Kody hasn't looked him in the eye since he came out here.  "What do you mean, what do I want?"

"It's a simple enough question, Jake."   His voice is growing soft again.

There's a million sarcastic remarks rolling around in his head but he realizes this isn't the time.  Honesty is the better choice.  "I thought you might want to talk about it?"

"Why?  What's to talk about?"  With the anger gone, Kody just sounds... defeated.
