Did you know...

Did you know that if you accidentally splash Diet Coke in your eye while taking a drink (don't ask) that your first instinct isn't to swallow?
No...your first instinct is to spew it all over your keyboard and monitor while you jump up and knock your chair over, clutching at your eye and thinking WTF!
Yeah, did that yesterday. My eye still kind of burns in the corner and now my keyboard is suffering. I cleaned it off as best I could and it was working pretty good last night but after sitting all night and the soda soaking in...grrr.
Now the buttons on the right side are sticking. Mostly the M, N, L and B. The other keys seem okay but do you know how much you use the letter L in normal "conversation"? The shift on that side is sticking a little, too, and, although, I type with both hands like you are supposed to I've never been able to get my left hand to use the shift key so I always use the right no matter which keys I'm using.
Very frustrating. I'm about ready to just write everything in lower case. I am so not in the mood to pry off all the letters to clean it better.
Stupid Diet Coke.

Date: 22 Mar 2011 05:23 pm (UTC)a) rinse the afflicted eye with a saline solution, or failing that, warm water, with your head tilted at the correct angle to prevent involving the other eye.
b) turn off the keyboard or disconnect it from the computer, and rinse that with distilled water. Wait 24 hours, then use it again.
Um, since you skipped those steps, try a little Visine in the eye, and a wet q-tip under the afflicted keys. Good luck!

Date: 22 Mar 2011 05:54 pm (UTC)Actually, my eye didn't hurt that bad. It only caught me right in the corner and only burned for a moment but I can still feel it itching a little this morning. It only bothers me when I think about it.
The keyboard...I thought I cleaned off where most of the soda went. I wiped it down with a wipe and it seemed to work just fine last night. All the keys that were spewed on worked just fine. Until this morning. I guess I missed a few that were really sticky. The keys work so it's not electronic (like shorted out or anything) they just feel like they are sticking together or to the bottom of the keyboard. The more I type the less stuck they feel. The M isn't quite as sticky and the L is better now. Still having a few issues with the shift key but I had issues with it before, lol. It's finicky.
The whole thing was pretty funny. I still don't know how I managed to splash my eye. But it was comical in my own head. Felt the splash, burning in my eye. Managed to put the can down and pull my glasses off and then for some unknown reason I spit the entire sip out instead of swallowing. My brain seemed to go haywire as the burning increased for a split second. After the pain stopped and I wiped my eyes I looked around and was like WTF?
I'm so strange sometimes.
